International Cooperation and SupportAs of December 2005, at least 19 bilateral and multilateral donors have committed almost $50 million to the fight against avian influenza in Vietnam. International NGOs are also supporting Viet Nam. Detailed information on international support is given in the Agency Directory. The National Committee for Avian Influenza Disease Control and Prevention (NSCAI) is responsible for coordination of international donor support. Donor coordination meetings are being organized with assistance from the UN Resident Coordinator and Country Team, the World Bank and other donors. A Donor Coordination Specialist and Programme Coordination Assistant have been recruited through the Joint Government-UN Programme. The Viet Nam Integrated Operational Programme for Avian and Human Influenza 2006-2010 outlines Viet Nam's support needs in the medium term and provides a basis for harmonised international support. An Avian Influenza Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Network is being supported by the joint Government-UN programme to bring together national and international agencies working on public awareness and behavioral changes. Other working groups are expected to be developed in future. The VUFO-NGO Resource Centre is also maintaining a matrix of INGO responses to avian influenza, online resources, and an email discussion list on avian influenza programmes in Viet Nam.
